Social Services

Compass Memorial Healthcare's Social Services staff serves patients and their support persons by assessing health related emotional and social needs and assisting to locate resources and services to meet those needs. Services provided by Social Services staff may include: counseling, education, information and referral to programs and services, advocacy, arranging in-home services such as home health, meals or equipment, assisting with insurance or financial concerns, assisting with long-term care placement decisions, facilitating completion of advance directives.

Social Services staff coordinates admissions to skilled and extended care at Compass Memorial Healthcare and provides social work services to patients in the hospital's outpatient hemodialysis unit. In addition, Social Services staff answers questions from the public about hospital and community programs and provide referral to programs and services if needed.

Social Services staff also coordinates the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) at Compass Memorial Healthcare. SHIIP is a free, confidential service of the State of Iowa that helps Iowans make informed decisions about Medicare and other health coverage.
