Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA)
Compass Memorial Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Orthopedic Physician Assistant to join our healthcare team. This position will assist our Orthopedic Surgeon in clinic and surgery.

We have an active ER, OR, Oncology and Med/Surg unit. CMH has 5 clinics within our service area, and we service 6 different nursing homes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinic-
• Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination.
• Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.
• Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
• Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care.
• Treats minor injuries and performs office procedures. (including Joint injections, casting, splinting)
• Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventive health, treatment options and community resources.
• Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.
• Performs special services as privileged.
• Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
• Documents patient information and care in medical records in a timely and accurate manner.

Surgery-
• First assist in orthopedic surgical procedures, including joint replacements, fracture repairs, and arthroscopies.
• Conduct pre-operative evaluations and post-operative management.
• Assist in surgical prep, positioning, draping, and sterile technique.
• Perform wound closures, dressing changes, and orthopedic hardware removal as needed.
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatment options and recovery expectations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

a. Bachelor’s Degree and successful completion of accredited Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution of medicine.
b. Current licensure or evidence of application for licensure for a Physician Assistant in the State of Iowa.
c. BLS, ACLS, PALS certification.
d. Must maintain eligibility for Federal DEA registration.
e. State of Iowa controlled substances registration.
f. Must have the ability to work with associated technologies relevant to the position.
g. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in written form, needs and solutions with all levels of the organization.
h. Minimum 1 year of orthopedic or surgical experience preferred. New grads with orthopedic rotations will be considered.
