2025 Marks the 20th Anniversary of CMH Foundation’s Tree of Lights

November, 2025

For two decades, the CMH Foundation’s Tree of Lights has been a cherished holiday tradition in the Marengo town square, a moment each year when our community gathers not just to welcome the season, but to celebrate love, remembrance, and hope. More than a tree lighting ceremony, it is a time of connection, reflection, and heartfelt gratitude. Whether honoring someone special or cherishing the memory of a loved one, this event offers a peaceful and uplifting start to the holiday season.

2025 Marks the 20th Anniversary of CMH Foundation’s Tree of Lights

This year’s celebration was especially magical. Under a sky illuminated by the northern lights, Compass Memorial Healthcare CEO Barry Goettsch welcomed attendees, followed by a touching prayer from Reverend Anni Thorn. Team member Jillissa Chavala shared the History of Christmas Tree Lights before she and fellow team member Natasha Hauschilt read the names of those honored and remembered through light donations. The ceremony concluded as the tree was lit, and Cooper Bott and Ruby Allison offered a beautiful a cappella rendition of Silent Night to all who gathered.

The donations, represented by glowing blue, white, and red lights, shine throughout the holiday season on the large tree in the town square. As the lights twinkle, the Marengo town square becomes a place of quiet reflection and togetherness, uniting the community in shared memories and heartfelt tributes.

Light Symbolism

Each light on the Tree of Lights holds a special meaning:

  • Blue lights in honor of loved ones
  • White lights in memory of loved ones
  • Red lights in memory of all Compass Memorial Healthcare team members we have lost

The CMH Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to Compass Memorial Healthcare team members, to all who have entrusted Compass Memorial with their care, and to the City of Marengo for graciously allowing the use of the town tree each year.

It was truly a heartwarming night, one the CMH Foundation is honored to share with the community, and one we look forward to celebrating for many years to come.
