City of Wellman and Compass Memorial HealthCare Partner to Open Family Medical Clinic in April
February, 2026The City of Wellman has partnered with Compass Memorial Healthcare to open the Family Medical Clinic of Wellman in April, restoring local access to primary care after the community’s previous clinic closed.
City leaders approached Compass Memorial Healthcare (CMH) after identifying a need for local healthcare services. Following months of planning and collaboration, the new clinic is preparing to welcome patients in early April. An official opening date will be announced in March.
“Having a clinic in the Wellman community will improve access to primary care for residents. It also supports the local economy by bringing jobs and people into town,” says Jillissa Chvala, MHA, Director of Ambulatory Clinics and Epic Administrator.
“Our goal is to be accessible and provide exceptional primary care to residents of Wellman and the surrounding area, delivered by team members who live in the community and serve their neighbors. We also strive to earn the trust of the Wellman community and to be seen as a contributing member of the community.”

The Family Medical Clinic of Wellman (FMCW) will be located at 217 8th Ave Unit 3, in the former Wellman Family Clinic building. An insurance business occupies the front portion of the building, while FMCW will operate in the back space. Signage will be in place directing patients to the main clinic entrance.
The FMCW team includes Madelynn Dickinson, ARNP, who lives in Wellman with her family, and Emma Baetsle, who will greet patients at the front desk and handle scheduling and is from Kalona. The clinic will also have a clinical support team member (RN/LPN/CMA). CMH is currently conducting interviews and hopes to select a team member in the coming weeks.
FMCW will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a lunch closure from noon to 1 p.m.
We are excited to join the Wellman community in April and offer trusted healthcare resources close to home. Learn more about the FMCW in the link below.
