Compass Memorial Healthcare to Open Family Medical Clinic of Wellman April 8; Now Accepting Appointments
March, 2026The City of Wellman has partnered with Compass Memorial Healthcare to open the Family Medical Clinic of Wellman on April 8, restoring local access to primary care after the community’s previous clinic closed.
After the previous clinic closed, the City of Wellman identified a need for local primary care services. In search of an organization to open a clinic in Wellman, city leadership connected with a Compass Memorial Healthcare (CMH) board member, who brought the opportunity to the organization. CMH found Wellman to be a strong fit and was eager to partner with the city to bring a clinic to its residents.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on April 8 at 9 a.m., and the public is invited to attend.
“The need for a local clinic has been apparent. We felt Compass Memorial Healthcare was a great fit to bring local healthcare resources to the Wellman community and surrounding areas."
Kelly Litwiller, City Administrator for the City of Wellman
“Having a clinic in the Wellman community will improve access to primary care for residents. It also supports the local economy by bringing jobs and people into town,” says Jillissa Chvala, MHA, Director of Ambulatory Clinics and Epic Administrator at CMH. “Our goal is to be accessible and provide exceptional primary care to residents of Wellman and the surrounding area, delivered by team members who live in the community and serve their neighbors. We also strive to earn the trust of the Wellman community and to be seen as a contributing member of the community.”
The Family Medical Clinic of Wellman (FMCW) will be located at 217 8th Ave, Unit 3, in the former Wellman Family Clinic building. An insurance business occupies the front portion of the building, while FMCW will operate in the back space. Signage will be in place directing patients to the main clinic entrance.
The FMCW team includes Madelynn Dickinson, ARNP, who lives outside of Wellman; Emma Baetsle, who will greet patients at the front desk, handle scheduling, and is from Kalona; and Courtney Hershberger, LPN, who will serve as clinical support and lives outside of Wellman.
The clinic will provide comprehensive, compassionate primary care for patients of all ages, caring for newborns, children, teens, adults, and seniors. Madelynn has experience in urgent care, pediatric care, and post-partum care, provides DOT physicals, and additional services.
FMCW will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.
CMH is excited to join the Wellman community and to open its doors on April 8. FMCW is now scheduling appointments. If you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call 319-646-6100.
