Maintenance Mechanic Non-Certified

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager, this position is responsible for the performance of duties necessary to keep the physical structure and associated equipment of the hospital and clinics in good repair. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform cleaning in all areas of building.
• Assist with minor electrical work, mechanical repairs and other duties relating to maintenance of the hospital and clinics.
• Assist the tradesmen and other workmen in completing their tasks; repairs and maintains machinery and other mechanical equipment.
• Assists with coordinating the repair of equipment or recommends the replacement of or additions to equipment or physical plant as necessary.
• Assists with work planning, gather needed supplies and parts.
• Cleaning of all floor areas, vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing and buffing.
• Performs grounds care of the hospital and clinic to assure a uniform and satisfactory landscape appearance.
• Constructs, repairs and maintains wooden structures such as furniture, equipment, partitions and other parts of the hospital buildings, using hand tools and power tools according to written and oral instructions.
• Repairs partitions, doors, windows, and floors, furniture and building framework, using power tools such as planers, sanders, saws and drills or hand tools such as planes, chisels, rasps, and saws.
• Replace light bulbs and clean light fixtures using a ladder.
• Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of the hospital and clinic, using paintbrushes, rollers, scrapers and blowtorches.
• Handle soiled linen.
• Report breakage and needed repairs.
• Collect trash from receptacles throughout the hospital property or buildings and empties in designated areas.
• Exercise skill and responsibility for supplies and equipment in their care.
• Perform a wide variety of routine maintenance repairs and services.
• Replace washers, faucets, and seals on plumbing equipment.
• Maintain daily, weekly and monthly inspections and maintenance of buildings, HVAC motors and fans, boilers, pumps and water softener equipment.

Education, Experience, and Training

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) preferred.
• Prefer completed courses in mathematics, minor carpentry, electrical plumbing and woodworking; or One to Two years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Must have the ability to work with associated technologies relevant to the position.
• Must possess the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in written form, needs and solutions with all levels of the organization.
