Retail Pharmacist

Position will share a Monday 10:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. rotation and then Tuesday through Friday 9:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.
- This position is required to live within the Compass Memorial Healthcare service area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide telepharmacy coverage and supervision of the North English CMH Retail Pharmacy and provide staffing as needed to meet minimum requirement of 16 pharmacist hours per month per Iowa law
• Interprets and evaluates all physicians’ medication orders with clarification as deemed necessary.
• Advises the prescriber, nurse and patients as required regarding the contents, therapeutic action, utilization, and possible adverse reactions or interactions of drugs.
• Accurately labels and dispenses medications to patients.
• Participate in patient counseling in accordance with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations for new prescriptions.
• Complete monthly inspections of CMH Pharmacy and CMH Pharmacy – North English, as required by Iowa Board of Pharmacy
• Controls the disposition of narcotics, other scheduled drugs, dangerous drugs, and investigational drugs as required by state and federal regulations.
• Directly supervises technicians and interns in the proper packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications.
• Assists with the check-in and storage of all drugs and supplies in the absence of the pharmacy technician.
• Has working knowledge of compliance issues (specific to job responsibilities), about federal, state, and local law and regulation. Job performance is consistent with regulatory guidelines.
• During downtime, may assist with the technical operations of the inpatient pharmacy including, but not limited to, anti-coagulation services and discharge patient counseling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree is required.
* Current and active licensure or evidence of application for licensure as a registered pharmacist in the State of Iowa.
